What a Full Kitchen Renovation Includes
Every renovation is scoped differently, but a complete project typically covers:
- Demolition of existing cabinets, countertops, flooring, and fixtures
- Layout redesign where needed — moving walls, repositioning the island, opening to adjacent rooms
- Plumbing rough-in updates — sink relocation, dishwasher supply and drain, refrigerator water line
- Electrical updates — additional circuits, under-cabinet lighting, island outlets, exhaust fan wiring
- New cabinet installation — frameless or face-frame, stock or semi-custom

Roanoke's Housing Stock and What It Means for Your Renovation
Roanoke's neighborhoods were built in waves. Old Southwest and Grandin Village have railroad-era craftsman bungalows and foursquares from the 1900s through 1920s. Wasena and Norwich filled in through the 1930s and 1940s. The postwar boom added ranches and capes across the north and west sides. Cave Spring and southwestern Roanoke County got split-levels and colonials from the late 1950s through the 1970s.
Each era has its own kitchen challenges. In a 1920s bungalow, you may have knob-and-tube electrical that needs to be addressed before you add modern appliances. In a 1950s ranch, the kitchen may be separated from the living space by a wall that can come down but requires structural assessment first. In a 1970s split-level, ceiling heights and awkward transitions can create design constraints.
