Cabinets define the look and function of a kitchen more than any other element. Installed correctly, they transform the room. Installed poorly — out of level, with gaps at the wall, hardware that doesn't align — they announce the problem every time you walk in.
What Good Cabinet Installation Requires
Cabinet installation looks straightforward. Pull the old ones out, hang the new ones. The reality in older Roanoke homes is more complicated:
- Walls that aren't plumb or flat. In a railroad-era bungalow or postwar ranch, the walls may have shifted over decades. Cabinets need to be shimmed and scribed to fit properly — gaps at the wall aren't acceptable on a quality installation.
- Floors that aren't level. Upper cabinets hang from the wall and are easier to level. Base cabinets sit on the floor, and if the floor has settled — common in older Roanoke homes — the entire run needs to be assessed and shimmed from the bottom up before anything goes in.
- Stud location and anchor points. Cabinets need to be anchored into studs, not just drywall. In plaster-over-lath walls common in pre-1950 construction, this requires a different approach than in standard drywall.
- Ceiling height variations. Older homes sometimes have ceilings that aren't consistent across the room. Trim and crown molding have to be cut and fit accordingly.
Cabinet Types We Install
We install all cabinet types and configurations:
- Stock cabinets from major suppliers — fastest turnaround, most cost-effective

- Custom cabinets — built to your exact dimensions and specifications
- Base cabinets, wall cabinets, tall/pantry cabinets, island cabinets
- Face-frame and frameless (European-style) construction
What We Handle
Cabinet installation rarely happens in isolation. When we do a cabinet job, we coordinate the countertop measurement and installation, handle any plumbing work the new layout requires, and make sure the electrical is set correctly for under-cabinet lighting if that's part of the project. Everything gets done together, by one crew, so nothing falls through the gap between trades.
