Hollins is a community in the northern end of Roanoke County, best known to many as the home of Hollins University but shaped more broadly by the suburban growth that spread up the valley from Roanoke through the 1950s, 1960s, and 1970s.
The established neighborhoods around Hollins Road and Peters Creek Road contain a range of mid-century housing — ranch homes and split-levels built during the postwar suburban expansion, brick colonials from the 1960s, and some older homes near the village center that predate the postwar era entirely. Much of this housing was built to a solid standard for its time and has been maintained carefully by owners who've been in these houses for decades.
